Porsche 996 GT3

A race inspired lightweight 996 model , the GT3  had a 3.6 litre engine combining the bottom end of the GT1 racecar unit with the water cooled , multi valved heads from the 996 Carrera which developed 360 bhp . To save weight and give better handling , the GT3 was rear wheel drive using a 6 speed gearbox .

The GT3 was distinguished by a large rear spoiler and deeper front spoiler with restyled air intakes , while sill extensions gave it a lower stance . The car was available  with a Clubsport package which was stripped of its electric windows , air conditioning and even its radio but it was fitted with full race harnesses , a full rollcage and a fire extinguisher which meant it was track ready . The comfort version was like a conventional  911 inside  although air con , and leather upholstery were both extra .

A total of 1890 GT3 s were built between 1999 and 2000 . It was followed by a new version in 2003
