Porsche 993 Turbo
Giving the already good looking 993 the wide body Turbo treatment was a surefire recipe for success . The rear arches were stretched by 30mm each whilst being enlarged downwards to make room for three large air intakes in the nose , and to improve aerodynamics at the rear . The rear wing was also improved and widened to wrap itself over the engine cover .
The engine was essentially the same 3.6 litre unit from the normally aspirated 993 but with a lowere compression ratio and it was fitted with two KKK K16 Turbochargers to reduce turbo lag and give an impressive 408 bhp .This was fed to all 4 wheels using the transmission from the Carrera 4 , making the Turbo safer and more driveable than ever .
The brakes were suitably uprated from those in the Carrera and featured bright red four piston calipers and 322mm discs front and rear . The Turbo wheels had hollow spokes to save weight and were shaped so they actually sucked cooling air onto the brakes behind . The 993 Turbo remained in production until 1998 .
