Porsche 993 GT2

A road going version of the GT2 race car , this was basically a 993 Turbo , but to save weight it was devoid of all the unnecessary luxuries. The electric windows and seats , air conditioning , much of the sound insulation and the sunroof were all removed . It was fitted with thinner than normal glass , aluminium bonnet and doors .

The power came from the same 3.6 twin turbo engine as fitted in the Turbo , but it was tuned to put out 430 bhp compared to the standard cars 408 bhp. This was however , fed only to the rear wheels to save further weight and to produce a purer track car . The bodywork was treated to huge plastic wheelarch extensions with visible bolts , and at the front , a deep front spoiler with end splitters was fitted . The rear was fitted with a huge adjustable wing with built in side vents which forced air directly into the engine .

With a claimed 0 - 62 mph time of just 4.4 seconds (the race version was just 3.1) and a top speed of 189 mph , the GT2 was a very fast car and a very exclusive car too , with only 50 ever being built .
