Porsche Boxster
Developed alongside the 996 model , the Boxster was an entry level model to replace the ageing 968 . It was a totally all new design which carried nothing over from the previous Porsche .
The Boxster was an opened top car with a mid mounted water cooled flat 6 engine that was similar to the 996 . The 2.5 litre engine had four valves per cylinder , Variocam variable valve timing and Bosch Motronic engine management . The engine was hidden from view and all the owner could see was the filler caps for the oil and coolant .
Strictly a 2 seater , the cockpit was modern and well equipped with an electric folding hood and came with an optional hardtop . Luggage could be easily stored in both front and rear compartments . The Boxster was updated with a more powerful 2.7 litre engine and other refinements in 1999 followed by a new model in 2005 .
